Headshots can be done in a variety of different styles: black-and-white or colour, plain or posed / themed, and with plan or mood lighting.

The headshots are usually done using my mobile photo studio: a rolled paper backdrop on stands with studio lights. Alternatively we can use a plain wall if you have one. Or we can shoot on-location.

When photographing headshots, the model needs to be about a metre out from the wall, to avoid shadows.

I usually take a few shots of each person so there’s some choice. I may pose your cast to get a uniform look. Makeup and costume – that’s on you! Make sure your cast know what’s expected of them before the shoot.

If there’s any particular look or style you want, let me know. If you want, find some sample pics in the look you’re after to show me.

Plan on each person’s shot taking 5 mins – and my portable studio takes about 15 mins to set up and the same to pack down. So factor that into the timing.

Very important – we don’t want to do headshots on-stage, using stage lights. Stage lights offer a very harsh light from above that puts deep shadows under noses and eye sockets and so on – Most unflattering! I’ll use my own lights with suitable diffusers and reflectors to get the look you’re after.
